THE KITCHEN IS COMPLETE ~but is it really ever done?

A little history. When I started this blog, my plan was to tell our story of how we staged the house to put it on the market to sell. We had a very nice stager walk through our house and tell us what to put away, what colors to use on the walls, how to declutter.
This is our kitchen before the staging. I’ll call it my hunter green kitchen. Lots and lots of hunter green!!
Then we put a little light green paint on the walls, decluttered, and lightened up things a little bit.
We decided NOT to put the house on the market. You can read about that here. Well, I thought to myself, I’m going to go WILD redoing our old house to make it new!! I wanted to tackle the kitchen first. There’s so much about the above picture that yells
So we have spent the last few months painting the cabinets, installing new countertops, reorganizing the cabinets, hanging curtains and, my personal favorite, accessorizing!
It’s so fun (at least for me) to see the whole process so here goes. If you want to read the post that goes with each step just click on the heading (FIRST, SECOND, etc). Hope you enjoy the process as much as we did!!
We painted the cabinets with  Sherwin Williams ProClassic gloss paint in bright white. We attached beadboard paneling to the ends of each cabinet. You can read about the process here,  here and here

We had the counters replaced with Kashmir White granite with an ogee edge.

The island has the Roman Ogee edge and the granite countertops have the Ogee edge.

We replaced our white dinged up sink with a stainless steel sink and new gooseneck faucet.

We hung beadboard paneling over the tile backsplash and added corbels. We painted both with the SW white paint. You can read more here and here.

We replaced the kitchen island countertop with Ikea’s butcherblock countertop that we had the ogee edge trimmed out. You can also read more here.
We replaced the hunter green out-of-date pendant lights with two black/glass pendant lights from Lowe’s.
We replaced the boring white pantry door with a 10-pane window door which I painted green and replaced the doorknob with a glass knob.
We replaced the big bulky oak barstools at the kitchen island with small under-the-counter stools that we already had. We just painted them green to match the walls. We also attached newel posts to the hangover counter to add a little character.
We replaced our white appliances with Craigslist stainless steel appliances. You can read all about it here.
I’m going to bunch all the accessories into one step. I painted everything I could find either green or white and I painted the chandelier black and the lampshades white and with green trim. I also added a little bling to match the pantry doorknob bling.

This was by far the hardest and most time consuming project we’ve ever done. But what a difference! It was worth every drop of  blood, sweat and some tears!! Every time I walk into our new kitchen I just
* SIGH *
NOW TO THE COMPLETE REVEAL……(drum roll please!!)

And last but not least…….

….and don’t forget it!!
Here’s the last before and after. Can you tell I love before and after pictures?

I want to say a special thank you to Son#1 for the great pictures. He’s really enjoying my new camera!

Let me know what you think! I’d love to hear.

  17. This looks fantastic! And gives me hope. Teh house we are buying has the original 1970-80s cabinets so they are very dark and it is also in the center of the house so NO windows! I’m planning on painting them white and adding new hardware to try to lighten things up. Thanks for sharing
