A BEAUTIFUL CLASSIC FIREPLACE~ attaching to the wall and the reveal!

The beautiful classic fireplace is finally done!!!!

When I first started planning my master bedroom renovation, one of the things I wanted most was a beautiful faux fireplace as one of the focal points of the room.

When I decided to move my bed to another wall, I found the perfect home for the new fireplace.

It’s the first wall you see when you enter the room.

I think the new faux fireplace is a beautiful eye catcher!!

But before I show you the  final reveal, I want to explain how we attached it to the wall so it will never move.

If you want to catch up to this point you can read all the steps to our beautiful fireplace.

Finding the mantel at the Restore ~ and all our other great finds.

Building the hearth and firebox

Attaching the stone paneling

The next step is to fill in all of this….

We attached 2x4s to the back of the mantel.

We took the same exact dimensions and attached 2x4s to the wall taking care to find studs.

When we put the mantel against the wall, we connected the 2x4s on the back of the mantel to the 2x4s with small cross members, one at the top, another one at bottom on each side.

This made the mantel secure and immovable. As we were doing this step, I noticed that there was a signature on the mantel from the person who made the mantel so pretty. Thank you for making my mantel so beautiful!!!

The next step was to hide the large gap between the mantel and the wall. So we attached two large panels (1×12 cut to the dimensions of the gap) and screwed them into the 2x4s. Each side panel was cut into two separate pieces and shaped to mirror the profile of the mantel.

I painted the panels using black milk paint that I used for the table in the hallway. I used General Finishes Lamp Black Water Based Milk Paint. The color matched perfectly with the color of the mantel.

The last step was to extend the back of the mantel.

We used another 1×12, cutting it to the dimension of the opening, staining with Minwax Wood Finish Penetrating stain in English Chestnut and polyurethaning with Minwax water based Polycrylic protective finish in clear satin to match the existing mantel.

Now to the fun part!

My daughters and I spent the afternoon yesterday going out to lunch and shopping at Hobby Lobby! What a great store AND a great day!!!!

I had a list of things I wanted to pick up to decorate my new beautiful faux fireplace!
