A NEW OLD ARMOIRE ~ transformed into a jewelry storage unit

I bought this beautiful entertainment center/armoire at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore and I just love the character. Very simple lines, and perfect for storing all my costume jewelry.

AND IT WAS A STEAL!!!

The tag read $45, but it was 60% off. I paid $18 for this beautiful piece of furniture. You just can’t beat it!! (Forgive the picture. It’s the only before I have of it. We bought the armoire and fireplace mantel at the same time.) You can see what we did with the mantel here.

Because my new master bedroom is very neutral, I thought I would add a touch of green scattered around the room like this chair and ottoman that I painted awhile back that’s in the corner of the room

and this vase which was the inspiration color for the armoire (and also a candleholder in the same color).

Before I started painting, I needed to remove some shelves and dividers. I also removed all the hardware and the doors.

I set up a work station in our master bedroom by laying a tarp down to protect the new wood floors. We then placed the armoire down on some paint cans to make it easier to paint.

I used Behr Marquee Interior Matte Advanced Stain-blocking Paint & Primer in Tuscany Hillside Green from Home Depot.

I applied two coats using a foam brush. Before polyurethaning, I distressed a few spots.

I polyurethaned with three coats of Minwax Polycrylic using a foam brush.

I put the hardware and doors back on after a couple of days of drying and then I got to organize my jewelry and the storage areas.

The main reason I bought this piece was to store my very cheap but bulky costume jewelry so it wouldn’t get all tangled. The storage above and below was an extra bonus! Who doesn’t need more storage??!!

Here’s a little before & after. Hope you like it!

Here in NC, we’re waiting with anticipation to see what Hurricane Florence will do. Please keep safe everybody!
