HAPPY GROUNDHOG DAY!

I’m on my second day of blogging every day for the month of February challenge. I found some great prompts over on The Sway

Today’s prompt is

“GROUNDHOG DAY! DID YOU SEE YOUR SHADOW WHEN YOU WENT OUTSIDE THIS MORNING?”

When thinking about this question, three different ideas popped into my head.

#1 The history of Groundhog Day and what does Punxsutawney Phil predict for this year.

#2 Have you seen the movie “Groundhog Day?”

#3 Does your life feel like Groundhog Day sometimes?

I did a little research on Groundhog Day and found out it started as a Christian holiday called Candlemas Day. People would bring candles to the church on February 2 to receive a blessing to last through the winter. At some point, weather was incorporated so that a sunny day on February 2 meant a cold and stormy winter. A cloudy sky meant warmer weather. Today, we rely on Punxsutawney Phil to tell us in the early morning of February 2 every year what the weather will be depending on if he sees his shadow or not. This year Old Phil didn’t see his shadow which many predict means a shorter winter. Sadly, poor Phil has been wrong more times than he’s been right. In other words, you’re guess is as good as his!

Have you seen the movie “Groundhog Day” starring Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell? The LOML and I have seen it a couple of times and our opinions can’t be farther apart. It’s one of his favorite movies! I can’t stand it! It’s the story of a weatherman who is stuck living the same day over and over again. The idea of sitting through a movie that shows the same scenes over and over again makes me cringe. My husband thinks it’s hilarious!

We have a running joke in our house……whenever we feel like we are stuck in the same rut, we yell out “Groundhog Day!” When we adopted our two daughters 13 years ago, we had to travel to the country of Kazakhstan and stay for five weeks to complete the adoption process. Each day, we woke up at the same time, were driven to the orphanage by the same man (who didn’t speak English), went to each girl’s room, picked them up, brought them back to the car, were driven back to our apartment, and would try to entertain two little girls for the rest of the day with minimal toys and a television playing SpongeBob episodes in Russian. GROUNDHOG DAY! Do you ever feel like your life is a repetitive, boring, predictable day over and over??

HAPPY GROUNDHOG DAY!
