MASTER BEDROOM REDO ~ Painting Furniture

We bought our beautiful Broyhill bedroom set from Furnitureland South in Jamestown, NC, when we first moved up to NC twenty four years ago!! Wow, time sure does fly!!

We loved the four poster bed and the rich color of the wood. I loved that I had to have a small foot stool to climb up into the tall bed. Sadly, the stool has fallen apart since then so I’ve had to just climb up on my own. Not a pretty picture when you’re nine months pregnant. Yea, good times!!

Since we’re redoing our master bedroom and lightening up the space I wanted to lighten up the furniture as well.

We’re keeping the nightstands and the tall dresser.

We moved the bed into Son #4s room and got rid of the entertainment center that housed our television.

Bye Bye!!

I bought white milk paint from a great furniture store in town called Woody’s.

I’ve used milk paint on two other projects and loved it. It’s thicker than regular paint. What I like best is that you don’t have to sand or prime before painting. I did have to use four coats because the dresser was such a dark color but I’m really pleased how it turned out.

I lightly sanded (a habit I can’t seem to break!) all the pieces after taking off the hardware and removing the drawers.

I applied four coats (2 hours apart), waited 24 hours to let it completely dry, then sanded areas for a distressed look.

I then applied 4 coats of polyurethane.

And voila!!

And a little sneak peak of the bed half of the master bedroom….

I have one more piece of furniture I need to paint and then I can show you the whole room in all its glory!

Come back and see the pretty green armoire that I’m using for all my jewelry.

Hope you’re enjoying your week!
