SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA ~ frisbee and a birthday present

After many years of cheering on our boys on the sidelines of many different fields in many different cities and states, we finally get to cheer them on in San Diego, California at the 2023 Ultimate Clubs National Championships!!

In August, I celebrated a big birthday…….#60!!!! Boy, did that go by fast! To celebrate, we wanted to travel to CA IF our sons made Nationals. If not, we would celebrate at the NC beach. Needless to say, we were cheering on for the boys to get to Nationals. I have never been to the West Coast so I was very excited for the boys to win!

The last game at Regionals that the team had to win to get to Nationals was an exciting game. Not only were many parents cheering from the sidelines but also other teams that had finished playing for the day were cheering them on. If I haven’t shared with y’all before, the ultimate frisbee community is a wonderful place. It’s a very uplifting, encouraging, good sportmanship kind of place. When our sons’ team won the last game to get them to Nationals, there was loud cheering, jumping up and down, hugging, champagne popping, and even some crying!!

SAN DIEGO HERE WE COME!!

The tournament would last four days, Thursday through Sunday. Then we planned to stay until the next Wednesday to enjoy the beach.

We gave our puppies kisses as we left early on Tuesday and headed to the RDU airport. We flew from Raleigh to Washington DC to San Diego. I’m not a world traveler so I get pretty stressed. During takeoff and landing, I pray a lot! Everything went smoothly and the LOML is always fun to travel with. We picked up our rental car and headed to our hotel.

After we settled into our room, we took a drive around the beautiful town of Cardiff-By-The-Sea.

We had dinner at a restaurant right on the beach called Pacific Coast Grill. Our scenery while we ate was absolutely stunning.

I ordered the Lobster and Shrimp Chowder which was absolutely delicious.

For the main course, I had the Char-grilled Wild Salmon served with sticky rice with Hawaiian BBQ glaze and roasted pineapple salsa with snow peas. (My mouth is watering just typing it!)

The LOML had the Pan-Seared Sea Bass served over mashed potatoes, sauteed spinach, tomato, basil, and white wine sauce. He said it was delicious. Paige, our server, was attentive, cheerful, and wonderful.

As we enjoyed our meal, we watched the beautiful sunset and the surfers that rode the waves. What a great way to end our first day in California!

We returned to the hotel and went to bed early so we could wake up for a busy day preparing for the frisbee tournament and doing a little exploring.

Come along with us as we cheer on our boys’ team at Nationals!

Day 2 of San Diego coming soon!

Love y’all,

Linda
