THE BEST MOTHER’S DAY GIFT

As Mother’s Day approaches, I can’t help but remember all the times the LOML and my kids have asked me,

“What do you want for Mother’s Day?”

I’ve held the title of Mother, Mom, Ma, Dude, Bruh, nag, (just to name a few) for 33 years. I’ve received the sweetest self-made cards with illegible writing to songs written and sung by a guitar playing teen and everything in between. They’ve been the most important memories I have treasured in my heart forever.

I have had dinners made for me, restaurant bills paid for me, home projects done for me, flowers sent, pictures drawn. I really am spoiled!

On the other side are the hard times. When my child is angry with me and they don’t wish me a Happy Mother’s Day and all I hear is silence and my heart breaking. It is now when I pray that they know how much I love them, no matter what. How sorry I am for the mistakes…the many mistakes I’ve made along the way. I always want them to know that no matter what, I will always be here for them. I will always pray for them. I will cry during holidays or birthdays or Mother’s Day when they choose to stay away.

There are things that will never be forgotten. There are things that will fade after time. But hopefully, the warm memories, the good times, the laughter will be engraved in all of our hearts forever.

I want my kids to know how much I love and appreciate them. My home is always their home. My time is always theirs. My heart is their hearts. I will always wish for their happiness, their success, their safety, their health.

So, to the question,

“What do you want for Mother’s Day?”

I want time with my kids. I want them to want to be with me. I want them to walk into my house without ringing the doorbell, I want them to feel at home. I want them to help themselves to the food in the refrigerator. I want them to feel safe to tell me anything and know that I will always love them no matter what.

I want them to understand I did my best. I failed, I learned, I failed again but everything I did, I did for them ALWAYS!!

Happy Mother’s Day to all of you beautiful mothers who are trying your best. You are awesome!!

Love y’all,

Linda
