THE MISSING WEDDING RING

TELL US A MYSTERIOUS STORY

(Not my picture)

Now, this story is true and it happened to me. None of the names have been changed to protect the innocent.

When I was a little girl, I remember sitting on my mother’s lap playing with her wedding ring. It was a two band set where the diamond engagement ring fit inside the wedding band. It was a beautiful emerald cut diamond maybe 1/2 carat and it looked absolutely stunning on my mother’s finger.

Fast forward to  September 2001. My mother lived in S. Florida and she flew up to Raleigh, NC to see her grandkids. She hated to travel so we were so happy when she decided to come visit. At the time, we were having our present house built so we were living in an apartment ~ two adults and four little boys. It was crazy and chaotic and we loved it!

While my mom was here, two important things happened. Sept. 11, 2001, my mom and I were sitting in our living room watching the news when we watched in horror as a plane flew into the World Trade Center. Then another one. We sat staring at the television unable to speak. It was an awful moment! Needless to say, my mom never traveled again she was so traumatized by the events that happened that day.

The other important thing that happened was that she gave me her wedding ring set. She said she knew I loved it and she wanted me to pass it down to one of my boys when they were ready to pop the question. It was such a sweet time between us. I’ll always treasure both the ring and my time with my sweet mom.

Fast forward to about 2005. We’ve been living in our new house for about 4 years. I’m sleeping in my nice comfortable bed when all of a sudden I sit up in a panic. I haven’t see my mom’s ring!! When was the last time I saw it?  The next day, I scoured the house. I looked in my jewelry box, the place I remember putting it when she gave it to me. Nothing. I searched every single place it could have been and couldn’t find it. I had the LOML scour the house as well. I replayed the last time I saw it. I looked in the cars. EVERYWHERE! Nothing. I was heart broken. At some point, I shared with my mom that I couldn’t find it and she was so understanding. She hoped that it would show up.

Every once in awhile that ring would pop into my head and my heart would hurt. How could I have lost something so special?

Fast forward about 4 years.

We were in the process of getting our house ready to sell. We had a stager come in and she made a list of changes we needed to do. We were slowly checking off everything on the list. One thing on the list was in a few rooms, the carpet had started to buckle so we called a carpet place to stretch the carpets.

As they were stretching the carpets in our master bedroom, the LOML was helping them move the furniture. A little bit later he comes down and says, “I have some really good news for you!” I love good news!! In his outstretched hand was my mom’s wedding ring.

I’m pretty sure I screamed. Then I cried. A huge weight was lifted off my shoulders and my heart.

When the LOML showed me where he found it I was shocked!

When he was moving the entertainment center, he was in the back while the other guys were in the front. When they tipped the furniture out fell three rings out of a small compartment on the back. He said the only way they could have gotten in the small compartment would be by little hands and little fingers.

We have lots of kids come through this house so who knows who put them there but YEAH we found them!!!!

Now, I’m not sure if that’s a mysterious story but it was a mystery to us so there!

Tomorrow’s prompt is “Your Best Chicken Recipe.”

Love y’all,
