THE COMPLETION OF THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE BOOKCASES

As I sit in my family room looking at a beautiful wall to wall, floor to ceiling bookcase, I let out a big

YEAH!!!

I’m also doing the happy dance!!!

We’ve been working hard for a long time, learning so much and having a lot of fun (that’s my word, not the LOML’s!) while building these built-in bookcases.

We installed the beautiful sconces we bought from Lowes and we trimmed out the bookcases with picture frame molding. Then we caulked everything and what a difference it made. Everything looks so clean and finished.

The best part of my job is getting to decorate…..

The top shelf holds my collection of vases. Each one held a bouquet of flowers from the LOML. I will treasure each of them forever!! The picture above the desk you can read about here.

I also bought a chair for the desk.

Here’s how I decorated the bookcases for Fall.

So what do y’all think??

I sit on the couch and just stare at it. It adds such class to the room. One of the boys said it feels like a museum. I’m not sure that’s what I was going for but I’ll take it. At least he noticed it!!!

Now here’s the Before & After (one of my favs!)

Hope y’all are enjoying your weekend as much as I am!

  1. I think your built-in bookshelves over the cabinets are absolutely awesome, and I could not begin to tackle such a project myself … I'm much more just an artsy person. BUT, I agree with Jeanine ~ why no books!?! At least some of the space should have books, and then your displayed items would gain much more importance, as well as notice! As it is now, everything ~ please forgive me ~ looks a bit cluttered! A nice blend of books, in just a *few colors* of your choosing (from half-price book stores or thrifts) would give you a whole different look … one of sophistication!

  2. […] A built in of massive proportions: Would really love a real built-in and I have someone in mind to actually build it. It has to have sooooo much storage. I am in love with the one from My Home is Where My Heart is […]

      • Hi Linda,

I followed the hometalk link, but didn't see a price breakdown.  There's a big rebate sale going on at our local Menard's and I'd love to compare their prices with what the materials cost for your built-ins.  Also (this is TOTALLY a newbie question) did you install the cabinets directly on top of the flooring?  We have carpet and I guess we rip it back before installing the bast cabinets?  It must be obvious to everyone but me, b/c nobody mentions this in diy built-in project posts.  🙂

  3. These bookshelves are really wonderful, but they are missing something – books!  This is just my 2 cents, but it looks like a lot of stuff to me. I think if you pared it down to about half of the stuff balanced by books filling at least half of the shelf space, then it would be easier on the eye, and you would be able to appreciate the decorative items more. Again, just a thought, and I admit that I'm jealous of all that shelf space as I have many books just waiting for bookshelves:)
