THESE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS ~ Great Books

DO YOU LOVE TO READ?

I love books!!

If you’re like me, this post is for you.

I’ve compiled a list of my favorite books that I’ve purchased on Amazon in the last few years. I hope it piques your interest to read some of them. Please let me know what you think. And share some of your favorite titles in the comments (chances are I will read them). This post contains affiliate links.

When I began compiling the list of good reads, I was astonished at how long the list was. We have some avid readers in our family. So I’m going to break the list up into genres.

One of my ultimate favorite types of books are non-fiction. I love to read true stories about people’s accomplishments, struggles, opinions, and just beating the odds.

Same Kind of Different as Me

by Ron Hall and Denver Moore

The LOML and I just saw the movie based on this book starring Greg Kinnear and Djimon Honsou, both of whom I love. It was a touching true story of an unexpected friendship between a well-to-do art dealer and a sweet homeless man. It’s a beautiful story!

Google says, “Successful businessman Ron Hall and his wife, Deborah, discover a renewed sense of purpose when they begin to volunteer at a local mission in Fort Worth, Texas. Their lives change forever when they develop an unlikely friendship with Denver Moore, a homeless man who inspires them to save their struggling marriage.”

Just Mercy

by Bryan Stevenson

Stevenson is a civil rights attorney fighting for the inmates on death row. It is a passionate story of a young lawyer trying to fix a broken judicial system. The movie starring Michael B. Jordan and Brie Larson is coming out in 2020.

Beautiful Boy

by David Scheff

A heartbreaking story of a father’s journey (the author) through his son’s addiction. A roller coaster of emotions reading this book.

Spiritual, uplifting,

Point of View

by Elisabeth Hasselbeck

From her life on Survivor, to the View, to Chief Breakfast Officer (mom), she takes the reader through all the lessons she has learned along the way and how it leads her to God. Well written and the Foreword is written by Candace Cameron Bure.

Amazon states, ” In this book, Elisabeth welcomes you into the many different, and often divergent, points of view that she has witnessed and learned from along the way. It is a journey that brought her to the ultimate point of view that she discovered in the Word of God–that until she sees herself as He sees her, she is not seeing at all. As you read through the pages here, she invites you to make the same discovery for yourself.”

I Can Only Imagine

by Bart Millard

Bart Millard, the lead singer of the Christian group Mercy Me, describes his childhood with an abusive father. Gut wrenching to read how his father beat him. Through it all, Bart found God, his voice, and the ability to forgive his father. It’s a beautiful story of forgiveness and God’s love.

A Perfect Mess

by Lisa Harper

Sometimes, our lives are crazy and messy and we feel overwhelmed and less than. But God sees us as He made us…in His image.

Amazon says, “On those days when French fries litter the floor of your minivan, when you think bad words about other drivers, when your smile hides an anxious heart–in those moments when you fall short of all you’d hoped to be–what does God see when He looks at you?”

Who doesn’t love the Gaineses?? This book is full of information on planning a project, furniture placement, decorating for your own design. It’s very informative and I love seeing Joanna’s style. She’s got such great taste!!
