WOOD ART WALL HANGING ~ and a great saying

When we were staging our house to sell, before we decided NOT to sell, I took everything off the walls. We now have the minimalistic look and I HATE IT!!

I want to hang things on the walls that represent us well. Pictures of the family, sayings that describe the people who live here.

A few months ago, I bought this wonderful saying from Royal Design Studio.

but I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with it.

I also saw this great idea on Thrifty Decor Chick.

I love all the colors Sarah used in her wall hanging.

Now, to put both ideas together into one fabulous wall hanging. Hmmmmmmm!

I bought a 3/16″ 2×4 piece of Lauan plywood as the backing ($5.92)

I bought one 6″ poplar board (1/4″x6″x4′) and cut it into 2 pieces ($5.74)

I bought four 3″ poplar boards(1/4″x3″x4′) and cut them into 7 pieces (($12.92)

I then painted the pieces with different colors that will match my family room wall that will be it’s new home.

Here are the pretty boards on the plywood backing. I just glued them on with my trusty Liquid Nails.

I cleaned up the glue that seeped out of the cracks, put some heavy boards on top to hold the painted boards down and went to bed.Good morning!
Let’s get right to work (and when I say “Let’s” which means “Let us” what I really mean is “Let me and you can read all about it”.).

APPLYING THE VINYL WORDS TO THE WOOD
1) I rubbed the back of the vinyl piece so the words would stick to the front plastic sheet, then peeled the backing off.
2) I placed the words on the wood and scraped with a credit card.
3) I lifted the plastic sheet off SLOWLY!

AND………..

I think it came out pretty nice!

Now to trim it off. I used the same 3″ poplar boards, cut them to fit with our trusty mitre saw, spray painted them green, attached with Liquid Nails and voila!

And the final product!
