FROM TABLE TOP TO CLOCK ~ using what you got

I am becoming the queen of trash recycling. Not the "where you fill up the recycle bin and put it at the side of the road to be picked up once a week" kind. I'm more the "instead of throwing it out, I try to use it for something else" kind.

I was throwing out a table from Daughter #1s room that the legs kept breaking off. The LOML picked up the table top (the legs had broken off….AGAIN!) and he said, "Maybe you could use this as a clock." He's a good man!!

A TABLE TOP TO A CLOCK STEPS

I spray painted the edge and the center of the clock face with green (for a little surprise I'll share later!).

I covered the green in the center with a heart I found at AC Moore.

I then spray painted the clock face with two coats of flat white.

SURPRISE!!!

We drilled a hole in the center of the face for the clock parts.

I bought a clock kit at AC Moore. It came with a battery pack, three gold clock hands, and numbers. I really just wanted the battery pack. I bought larger black hands and I wanted to paint black roman numerals for the numbers. I kept the second hand gold to see how it would look.

I applied black letters to add a little whimsy. I used my blog name because it is really how I feel <3

Painting the Roman numerals was next. I bought a 2" stencil from AC Moore.

It was such a fun project! I plan on hanging it above the fireplace mantel when it's done.

Speaking of the fireplace mantel, the LOML and Son #4 hung the drywall and mudded (is that a verb?) the tv niche. Tomorrow, we'll sand and start working on the mantel. I can't wait!

I've also painted the doors and drawers for the built-in bookcases white and the knobs black just like our kitchen. It's coming together nicely!!

One more peak at my new clock….

  1. Hey I know this is off topic but I was wondering if you knew of any widgets I
could add to my blog that automatically tweet my newest twitter updates.

I’ve been looking for a plug-in like this for quite some time and was
hoping maybe you would have some experience with something like this.
Please let me know if you run into anything.
I truly enjoy reading your blog and I look forward to your new updates.

    • Thank you so much Jocie!! An easy project but makes a huge statement. I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on it! Thanks so much for the feature. I’m honored. Love you blog!!! ~Linda

  2. I have been wanting to make my own clock and have been searching thrift stores for something that strikes my fancy, but I hadn't considered a table top. What a great idea and free is always good in my book.
