KITCHEN REDO ~ # a zillion!

It seems like I’ve been posting about my kitchen FOREVER! Am I driving y’all crazy?

Before we started today, Son #4 drew a “map” of the third section of our kitchen where the dishwasher and sink are and numbered each cabinet drawer and door.

We took down the cabinet doors and drawers.

We removed all the hardware and put them in sandwich bags with the matching numbers correlating to the map.

We also labeled the doors with the same number.

We cleaned the cabinets, doors and drawers with TSP and had lunch while they dried. We also watched a little “National Treasure: Book of Secrets”. I love that movie!

We then sanded, wiped down, and primed everything with two coats of  Zinsser Bullseye 1-2-3 Primer.

My boys were a HUGE help today after some eye rolling and running way. To reward them, I made their favorite dessert.

CHOCOLATE TRIFLE
1 Duncan Hines chocolate fudge cake
2-5.9 oz instant chocolate pudding
1/2 cup strong coffee
1-12 oz frozen whipped topping
2 whole heath bars, crushed
2 cups milk for pudding
Bake cake according to package directions. Cool. Prepare pudding according to package directions. Set aside. Crumble cake; reserving 1/2 cup. Place half of the remaining cake crumbs in the bottom of a 4 1/2 or 5 qt trifle bowl or decorative glass bowl. Layer with half of the coffee, half of the pudding, half of the whipped topping and 1/3 of the crushed candy bars.
Repeat the layers of cake, coffee, pudding and whipped topping and candy. With reserved candy crumbs and cake crumbs, sprinkle over top. Refrigerate for 4-5 hours before serving. Yields 6-10 servings.
*NOTE* I do not use the coffee. I don’t like coffee but people say it gives it a lot more flavor. Just not the flavor I like! Try it and let me know what you think.
Love ya,
Linda

  1. Your kitchen is looking great! Please update on counter prices…I’m curious! We had a bathroom flood last July (yes, 2011) and JUST finished re-doing our entire bathroom ourselves (Matt re built our entire shower, pan and tile and all)! I am exhausted over it all so I am so impressed by your energy! You are gifted in this area!! Miss you! Christy
