“SPRING”ING THE EXTERIOR OF THE HOUSE

I haven’t worked on the outside of our house since we built the wood pallet fence around our ugly air conditioning unit a few years ago.

We’ve been in our house about 17 years and I really wanted to change the color scheme up a bit. After the HOA okayed my plans I got to work.

The vinyl siding is white so really I can paint the shutters any color I desire. The shutters and front door are a kelly green. Though I love green, I really just wanted a change.

My favorite color of all time is royal blue. So I wanted the blue on the front door and I really think black shutters look really elegant and timeless.

I bought the paint from Lowe’s Home Improvement. The door paint is Sherwin Williams Peak-a-boo Blue Weathershield Exterior satin. The shutter paint is Sherwin Williams Dark Kettle Black Weathershield Exterior satin.

We borrowed a 32~foot ladder (Wow! that’s tall!) from a friend and the very brave LOML climbed up and down the ladder painting the second floor shutters while I stayed safely on the ground and painted the bottom shutters. I absolutely loved how they turned out. Daughter #2 stood in the window by each shutter and held whatever her dad needed to be held. I prayed a lot!!

I painted the front door with a Purvy paint brush and a beautiful shade of royal blue and I am smitten!!

We added a bunch of beautiful flowers from Lowe’s.

Mandevilla

Calibrachoa

African Marigold

Lowes has great planters that they put together for someone like me who has no idea about plants. We bought two planters because I loved the blue and they hold a Red Sister Cordyline, Mandevilla, and an Asparagus fern.

I have about six day lilies in the front but only one has bloomed this sweet little bloom.

I used the same wreath but added some more yellow flowers and a burlap bow with a plaid bow that brings out the blue of the door from AC Moore for $10. I love it!!

The checkered blue floor mat is from Target for $15.99.

Oh look, my toenails match my front door!!! BAM!!!!

We also painted our outside lights because they used to be black but have faded to a dull yucky gray.

It was very easy to take apart. I unscrewed the top and bottom, slipped the glass pieces out, spray painted all the gray pieces and then put everything back together.

Isn’t it so pretty??!!

I also spray painted the door knob which also used to be black but because our house gets sun all day long, it was a rusted, coppery color. It looks brand new with the new paint job!

And here is everything all put together. It came out so much better than I imagined. I love the blue door!!!

Now that the outside of our house looks great, we’re moving into our master bedroom to install the faux fireplace. Come back and see how it turns out!

Hope you enjoying your Tuesday!
